LODGE SEASONThe lodge is open all year round. CLIMATE At 3,718 feet above sea level Rusinga Island has a mild climate making activities both pleasurable and viable all year round. Typically daily temperatures range between 20 and 28 degrees C. The lake provides some humidity for the air, even during dry spells, making it hard to imagine a more favourable climate to be in. During the months of April and May 'the long rains' - usually falling during the night - may prohibit some activities. The days are generally sunny and hot and the evenings clear and warm. In the afternoon an on shore breeze stirs up, making it very pleasant and carries on into the evening. WHAT TO BRING Sun protection (hats, suncream, glasses), ankle-length walking boots for hikes, light windproof jackets, swimwear, binoculars, cameras and film. The atmosphere is informal and relaxed. Long sleeve shirts and traditional sarongs are often worn in the evenings. ACCESS Access to The Lodge is recommended by private air charter from Nairobi, the Masai Mara or Kisumu, the nearest scheduled flight points. The lodge is 35 minutes from the Maasi Mara, 20 minutes from Kisumu or 80 minutes from Nairobi. The airstrip is directly adjacent to the Lodge. AIRCRAFT Rusinga Island Lodge owns and operates a commercial 5 seater Cessna 206 single engine aircraft available for charters.
